The ideas behind different perspectives of the
automobile are varied, and so too are my approaches to
image making. I search for qualities of line, form, and
color to create compositions that highlight the speed of a
racecar, the sensuality of an exotic car, or the nostalgia of
a classic. My foundations in drawing lie in the traditions
of realism and objective representation with traditional
materials. My work has evolved into more diverse
approaches. Breaking away from the car as a still, solid
object, I create abstractions that emphasize the speed,
movement, and interactions with road and track through
forms, linear movements, and colors. My
experimentations with non-traditional materials
continually challenge me as an artist and lead to new
visual expressions, while remaining closely tied to the
ideas and components of the subject matter through
concept and medium.

The culmination of my personal history with the automobile and the world of motor
sports is the primary inspiration for my art. Traveling the roads and highways into more
than thirty states has given me a deep interest and appreciation for the interactions
between cars, roads, terrain, and artificial landscapes. My experiences in motor sports
and motor sports culture started early on, growing up around relatives who raced cars.
Beyond the excitement as a spectator, my pursuits and aspirations as a driver have
enriched my understanding of the speed, skill, precision, and performance that are all
essential to racing. The acts of drawing and image making have always been vital to my
personal growth and are ever evolving. Likewise, as the subjects, ideas, and
experiences that inspire my work have developed, the imagery I create has taken root in
that development.
